New Audi RS3 Breaks Nurburgring Compact Class Record

The Audi RS3 has set a new record at the Nürburgring, surpassing the previous benchmark held by BMW for the fastest compact class production car. Previously, BMW’s record was established by Jorg Weidinger, who completed the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 38.71 seconds. However, the new Audi RS3, still under camouflage and set to be officially revealed as a 2025 model, has bested this time by over five seconds, clocking in at 7 minutes and 33.12 seconds.

This impressive feat was achieved with Frank Stippler, a seasoned racing and development driver, at the wheel. The RS3 he drove was equipped with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tires, ceramic brakes, an RS-specific adaptive suspension, and a finely tuned chassis, all contributing to its remarkable performance.

Interestingly, despite the new RS3’s enhanced performance features, its power output remains unchanged from the previous model. The European version of the car uses a slightly detuned 2.5 TFSI engine, producing 395 horsepower, compared to the 401 horsepower of the pre-facelift RS3 available in the United States. This slight power discrepancy comes despite hints from Audi Sport boss Sebastian Grams about the potential for increased power in future models.

A special edition of the RS3 with 401 horsepower, mirroring the US-spec version, has been mentioned but is not available in the American market. Audi has suggested that future iterations of the RS3 might feature the ultimate version of the turbocharged inline-five engine, although this engine’s future is uncertain due to stricter emissions regulations.

While the US market benefits from slightly more power as standard, European customers have the option of a five-door hatchback version of the RS3, offering a more luxurious and powerful alternative to the Volkswagen Golf R. Audi plans to unveil the new RS3 officially soon, with orders in Europe starting in late August and the first deliveries to dealerships expected in October.
