Ferrari has unveiled its latest marvel of automotive engineering, the 12Cilindri and its open-top counterpart, the 12Cilindri Spider, in a grand ceremony held in Miami. While there’s obvious controversy over the styling, the spotlight of these models shines brightly on their formidable 12-cylinder engine, a hallmark of Ferrari’s tradition and innovation.

Under the hood lies a 6.5-liter, 65-degree V-12 engine, the latest iteration of Ferrari’s renowned F140 powerplant lineage. With an output of 819 naturally aspirated horsepower at a heart-pounding 9,250 rpm and 500 pound-feet of torque at 7,250 rpm, this engine roars to life with a redline at an exhilarating 9,500 rpm. What’s more remarkable is Ferrari’s achievement in meeting stringent emissions standards without resorting to hybrid assistance.

This powerhouse is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox positioned at the rear, promising 30 percent faster shifts than its predecessor. Complemented by taller 21-inch tires, the gear ratios are effectively shortened, contributing to lightning-fast acceleration. Ferrari boasts impressive performance figures, with a 0-62 mph sprint accomplished in a mere 2.9 seconds for the coupe and 2.95 seconds for the Spider, with respective 0-124 mph times of less than 7.9 and 8.2 seconds. Both variants exceed a top speed of 211 mph.

Beyond raw power, the 12Cilindri demonstrates Ferrari’s commitment to innovation with features like “Aspirated Torque Shaping,” an electronic system enhancing torque delivery in specific gears. The design ethos, reminiscent of the iconic Daytona, incorporates modern technical elements, exemplified by the sleek exterior and driver-centric cockpit.

Inside, Ferrari blends tradition with modernity, featuring a familiar steering wheel adorned with controls alongside a central infotainment display, a departure from previous models. The cabin exudes luxury and functionality, echoing elements seen in the Purosangue SUV.

The 12Cilindri is not merely a brute force machine; it’s a marvel of engineering with advanced chassis control systems including Side Slip Control 8 and four-wheel steering, enhancing maneuverability and stability. With a dry weight ranging between 3,459 to 3,571 pounds, this Ferrari is 15 percent stiffer than its predecessor, ensuring a dynamic driving experience.

Of course, exclusivity comes at a price, with the coupe priced at $423,000 and the convertible at $466,000. It’s no surprise that demand for these V-12 Ferraris far exceeds supply, perpetuating Ferrari’s legacy of automotive excellence and desirability.
