Toyota has unveiled additional details about the forthcoming 2025 4Runner, building anticipation just a week after releasing the initial teaser. Among the features showcased in the latest reveal is the iconic roll-down rear window, a beloved characteristic of the SUV. Alongside the image and video teasers, Toyota has confirmed that the official debut of the 4Runner is slated for next Tuesday, April 9.

Replacing its predecessor after a remarkable 15-year tenure on the market, the sixth-generation 4Runner marks a significant evolution. Despite its extended lifespan in automotive terms, the 4Runner has consistently garnered strong sales in the U.S. market. Notably, its sales surged starting in 2014 and reached a peak in 2021. Even in the previous year, sales remained robust, surpassing the figures from its first model year—an achievement rarely seen in the auto industry.

Aligned with Toyota’s recent lineup revamps, including the new Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus GX and LX, the latest 4Runner will be based on the TGNA-F truck platform. Maintaining its characteristic body-on-frame construction, the new iteration is expected to occupy a position below the Land Cruiser in Toyota’s off-road offerings.

Speculations suggest that the 4Runner may share powertrains with the new Tacoma pickup. This could entail a base option featuring a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with potential for a hybrid drivetrain in the future. The base engine, already powering the Tacoma, delivers 220 horsepower, while other models boast 278 hp. Additionally, a hybrid i-Force Max powertrain combining the same engine with an electric motor is anticipated, offering up to 326 hp.

Anticipated to be available in a range of trims, from the base SR5 to the upscale Limited and off-road-oriented TRD Pro, the 2025 4Runner is set to offer diverse options to cater to various preferences. As with Toyota’s recent truck releases, the new 4Runner will feature a thoroughly modernized interior equipped with the latest technological advancements expected in a vehicle of its model year.
