The 2024 Lexus GX marks a notable departure from its predecessor, introducing robust and chunky styling that diverges from the typical premium brand aesthetic. Priced at $64,250, it exceeds the initial estimate of $60,000, factoring in the mandatory $1,350 destination and delivery fee. This figure represents a departure from the outgoing GX, which commenced at just under $60,000.

A pertinent comparison arises with the upcoming US-spec Land Cruiser, whose pricing is expected to start in the mid-$50,000 range. This prompts questions about the GX’s value, commanding a roughly $10,000 premium over the Land Cruiser. Both SUVs share a common platform and possess a square, upright design. However, the GX distinguishes itself with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 generating 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. In contrast, the Land Cruiser relies on Toyota’s 326-hp I-Force Max turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four hybrid, with Lexus hinting at the hybrid powertrain’s future inclusion in the GX.

For those prioritizing fuel efficiency, the GX with the V6 is projected to achieve 21 mpg on the highway, an improvement over the outgoing V8 model but likely still under 20 mpg combined. The I-Force Max’s fuel efficiency remains unconfirmed, awaiting official statistics.

The entry-level GX 550 Premium boasts an array of standard features, including full-time 4WD, a 12.3-inch driver display, a 14-inch center touchscreen, heated/ventilated front seats, a 10-speaker stereo, and Lexus’s Safety System+ 3.0. This safety suite encompasses automatic emergency braking, radar cruise control, lane-keep assist and departure warnings, and onboard cameras capable of reading road signs. Optional upgrades encompass additional heated seats, an enhanced sound system, a heads-up display, and a choice between two or three-row seating configurations. Overall, the 2024 Lexus GX combines distinctive styling with a range of features and engine performance, albeit at a premium compared to its counterparts.
