Honda is set to showcase its latest electric vehicle (EV) lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2024, signaling the company’s commitment to a sustainable future despite recent changes in its partnership landscape. Although Honda had dissolved a deal with GM to produce small EVs on a shared platform, the automaker remains steadfast in its goal to achieve a 100% zero-emissions lineup by 2040.

In an announcement made on Wednesday, Honda revealed its plan to unveil a new global electric vehicle series at CES 2024 in January. This move aligns with Honda’s broader ambition to achieve carbon neutrality for all its products and corporate activities by 2050. The company aims to introduce 30 new EVs globally by 2030, with a target sales volume of 2 million units.

The North American market is a focal point for Honda’s electrification strategy, with the company outlining an aggressive timeline for EV introductions leading up to 2030. The ultimate goal is to achieve 100% zero-emission automobile sales in the region by 2040, encompassing both battery electric and fuel cell electric powered models.

While the announcement lacks specific details about the upcoming EV series, Honda emphasizes that it is a collection of new models rather than a single vehicle. The company intends to showcase these models along with several key technologies at its CES booth. Whether these will be physical concept cars or primarily renderings remains unspecified. Notably, Honda’s CEO Toshihiro Mibe and EVP Shinji Aoyama are expected to be present at CES to deliver remarks, underscoring the significance of this unveiling.

Despite the dissolution of the collaboration with GM on smaller cars, Honda maintains ties with the American automaker. The forthcoming Prologue EV from Honda, which has yet to be released, will utilize GM’s Ultium battery architecture. Positioned roughly the size of the Passport in Honda’s lineup, the Prologue EV signifies a collaborative effort. However, speculation arises about the potential development of an in-house successor to the Prologue in the future.

In essence, Honda’s participation at CES 2024 reflects its dedication to advancing the electrification of its vehicle lineup and achieving ambitious sustainability goals in the coming decades. The unveiling of a new global electric vehicle series underscores Honda’s commitment to innovation and addressing the global shift toward zero-emission transportation.
