Toyota is far from being boring as it continues a path to keep their lineup of GR vehicles (sports cars) fresh giving the Toyota GR86 a Tureno Edition to pay homage to the original Sprinter Trueno in celebrating its 40th anniversary, adding a 45th anniversary edition of the Supra, and giving the GR Corolla Circuit Edition a new Blue Flame color and some functional updates.

Toyota brings us a limited edition of the GR86 sports coupe called the Trueno Edition to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original Sprinter Trueno. With only 860 units available, this special edition comes with a new performance package that can be optionally added to the regular 2024 GR86. Additionally, owners of 2022 and 2023 models can have the performance package retrofitted to their vehicles. Toyota has also made an exciting update by offering the GR86’s active safety system on models equipped with a manual transmission, following Subaru’s move to include their “Eyesight” system in the manual BRZ in Japan.

The Trueno Edition is primarily an appearance package, based on the Premium grade. It is offered in red or white and features a two-tone hood and side stripes, black finishes on the door handles, side mirrors, and duckbill spoiler, as well as “TRUENO Edition” badging on the front and rear. The car is fitted with unique 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the Trueno Edition boasts red seats upholstered in faux suede and trimmed with leather. The shift boot, steering wheel, floor mats, and trunk mat are also adorned with matching red leather, while the shift knob proudly displays the “Trueno Edition” badge.

The 18-inch wheels are of significance because they are a prerequisite for Toyota’s new performance package. The package includes Sachs dampers and Brembo calipers, specially optimized for improved ride, handling, and brake consistency. The best part is that this performance package will be available for customers who own 2022 and 2023 models as well. Previously, the Premium model with 18-inch wheels served as a stand-in for a full-fledged performance package. The upgraded braking system features four-piston Brembo calipers gripping 12.8-inch rotors at the front and two-piston calipers gripping 12.4-inch rotors at the rear. Unfortunately, the larger brakes are not compatible with cars equipped with the standard 17-inch wheels. Toyota’s 18-inch wheels also come equipped with Michelin’s high-performance Pilot Sport 4 S tires, offering superior performance compared to the Michelin Primacy HP tires that come with the 17-inch wheels.

While track enthusiasts may not consider safety features a top priority, Toyota now offers active safety features on manual-transmission GR86s. These features include adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and more. It should be noted that this safety suite is similar to Subaru’s EyeSight system, although Toyota did not provide specific details on how these features will interact with a manual transmission. Further information is expected to be released by Subaru.

The 2024 GR86 Trueno Edition will be available for ordering starting this winter, while additional details about the rest of the 2024 GR86 lineup will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

2024 Toyota Supra 45th Anniversary Edition

In celebration of the Toyota Supra’s 45th anniversary, the 2024 model year brings forth a special edition of the iconic sports car. While it may seem like just another addition to the Supra lineup, this particular version holds a significant occasion for enthusiasts. The 45th Anniversary Edition GR Supra showcases a unique set of features that adds to its exclusivity.

The standout aspect of the GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition lies in its custom color scheme and rear wing. Buyers will have the option to choose between two striking colors: Absolute Zero, a sleek white shade, or Mikan Blast, a vibrant orange hue (as shown in the images). Interestingly, the production run will consist of an equal split between the two colors. On each side of the car, a black stripe embellished with the Supra logo elegantly cuts through the body. To further accentuate the vehicle’s aesthetics, the wheels, mirror caps, and rear wing are painted in a matching black color.

The rear wing not only adds to the car’s visual appeal but also serves a functional purpose. Designed to be adjustable, it allows the driver to alter the angle, thereby affecting the downforce generated. Additionally, the engine bay of this special edition Supra boasts orange-painted strut tower braces, creating a vibrant and eye-catching visual element.

Limited to a production run of just 900 units for the U.S. market, the 45th Anniversary Edition Supras will offer customers a choice between an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. As an added bonus, like other Supras, each purchase includes a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association (NASA). This membership encompasses a complimentary High Performance Driving Experience, along with discounts for various other events organized by NASA. While the exact pricing details for this special edition have yet to be disclosed, the cars are scheduled to arrive at dealerships in the upcoming fall season. The announcement regarding pricing will coincide with the release of additional information about the 2024 model year lineup.

2024 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition

The new 2024 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition now features a striking Blue Flame color option. While it may seem like a single addition to the palette for the 2024 GR Corolla, it is undeniably an excellent and much-needed inclusion, especially considering that the choices for 2023 were limited to red, black, white, and two shades of gray. Blue Flame has previously adorned other Toyota models, notably the GR86, and now it is available for the GR Corolla, but only for those opting for the Circuit Edition.

In addition to the captivating blue paint, Toyota has incorporated some notable enhancements into the Circuit Edition. This variant now boasts lightweight 18-inch BBS forged wheels, similar to those featured on the 2023 Morizo Edition. To accentuate the blue exterior, blue cars can also be paired with unique black side rocker graphics. Step inside, and you’ll notice blue stitching throughout the interior, complemented by a blue-striped shift knob and a blue-striped emergency brake handle. While the majority of the interior remains black, these splashes of color provide a subtle upgrade to the GR Corolla’s cabin, making it more competitive with the aesthetically appealing red interiors of rivals like the Civic Type R.

Toyota has also shared some insights into the performance updates made to the 2024 GR Corolla Circuit Edition. The steering gear box is now securely mounted to the front suspension sub-frame using new ribbed flange bolts. Additionally, the flange bolts connecting the rear suspension to the sub-frame have been widened by 2 millimeters. Lastly, Toyota highlights the use of an unpainted bolt that now ensures direct metal-to-metal contact, grounding the battery to the frame. These meticulous updates reflect the GR team’s commitment to refining the car over time and achieving perfection. Other performance-related updates include redesigned ducting to optimize airflow through the side grilles and behind the front wheels, as well as the addition of aluminum sheets beneath the front and rear wheel wells to enhance vehicle stability.

Apart from the previously mentioned updates, the 2024 Circuit and Core editions remain mechanically identical to their 2023 counterparts. Both variants retain the impressive 300-horsepower, 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

Toyota has yet to announce pricing for the 2024 models, but the updated Circuit Edition with the Blue Flame paint is expected to be available in the upcoming winter. Given the high demand for limited-production hot hatches like the GR Corolla, you may want to bug your local dealership as soon as possible to get your order in.
