Land Rover has unveiled the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SV, a high-performance SUV that lives up to its name. With its impressive power and performance upgrades, the Range Rover Sport SV is the most powerful Land Rover model to date.
One of the key highlights of the new Range Rover Sport SV is its upgraded engine. While the 2024 Range Rover introduced a 607 horsepower (615 PS) version of the BMW-sourced 4.4-liter V8, the SV takes it a step further with 626 horsepower (635 PS). The torque remains unchanged at 553 lb-ft (750 Nm), but engaging the Dynamic Launch Mode provides a temporary boost to 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) thanks to the mild-hybrid system. These power figures represent significant improvements over the previous generation SVR, with a zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time of 3.6 seconds and a claimed 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

Despite the impressive performance, Land Rover may have plans for an even more powerful SVR variant in the future to compete with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. The Cayenne Turbo GT boasts 650 horsepower (659 PS) and can reach 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 189 mph (304 km/h).
To ensure the Range Rover Sport SV delivers not only raw power but also excellent control, Land Rover has made several hardware tweaks. Optional upgrades include 23-inch carbon wheels, which help reduce unsprung weight and rotational mass, and carbon ceramic brakes—a first for a Land Rover SUV. The combination of interlinked hydraulic dampers and height-adjustable air springs in the 6D Dynamics suspension, along with staggered tire sizes (285s in the front, 305s in the rear), contributes to improved handling and 1.1G of lateral grip on all-season tires.
In terms of aesthetics, the Range Rover Sport SV features an aggressive new front bumper, side skirts, and quad tailpipes, signaling its performance-oriented nature. Inside, the SV boasts carbon-backed sports seats with integrated headrests and SV logos, a cool-touch ceramic gear shifter, and edge-lit shift paddles—a world-first according to Land Rover.
An interesting addition to the Range Rover Sport SV is the Body and Soul Seat (BASS) system. This innovative feature analyzes music tracks being played through the 29-speaker, 1,430-Watt Meridian Hi-Fi system and transmits matching vibrations through the front seats, immersing occupants in the audio experience. Additionally, the BASS system offers six specially developed tracks designed to reduce anxiety or boost alertness.
Unfortunately, the Range Rover Sport SV has already sold out for the first year of production, with the only available version being the fully-loaded £171,460 SV Edition One. This limited edition model features special branding on various elements and has been pre-allocated to Range Rover buyers.
Aside from the SV, Land Rover has introduced other updates for the 2024 Range Rover Sport lineup. The P530 variant now adopts a mild-hybrid version of BMW’s 4.4-liter V8, offering the same 523 horsepower (530 PS) output. The P550e plug-in hybrid (formerly P510) sees an upgrade in power, with 542 horsepower (550 PS) and increased torque from 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) to 590 lb-ft (800 Nm). The P550e also benefits from a reduced zero to 60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a slight improvement in electric driving range from 70 miles (113 km) to 75 miles (121 km).
The 2024 Range Rover Sport also receives the Country Road Assist cruise control system, which utilizes map data to automatically adjust speed when approaching bends. Additionally, every model now comes with Land Rover’s latest 13.1-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system, featuring improved usability, haptic feedback, and integration with Amazon Alexa.
Pricing for the new Range Rover Sport starts at £83,620 in the UK, with prices for the U.S. market yet to be announced.
