I’ve always enjoyed what Honda offered for us here in the United States in the form of the Honda Civic Type R. It was a vehicle that took me by surprise and surpassed my initial expectations by leaps and bounds. Now, for the latest 11th generation Civic, Honda unleashes a new 2023 Honda Civic Type R that is sure to impress by what we see here.
The new 2023 Honda Civic Type R elevates what we already have in the 2022 North America Car of the Year being the 2022 Honda Civic bringing us the most powerful Honda car in America. That means the new Civic Type R will get more than the outgoing power figures of 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. For now, Honda is remaining quiet about the power figures but what we do know is we will get a reworked version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that gets exclusively mated to an ‘improved’ 6-speed manual transmission with a rev-matching program, which should be one of the best in the business for powering a front-wheel-drive vehicle.
Also, don’t forget that you can get discounted new car pricing with a free quote through qualified local dealer partners.
Honda promises a rewarding and addicting driving character in the new Civic Type R, which we don’t doubt one bit considering how much we liked the outgoing model. There’s a lot to like in what the new Civic Type R is made up of, such as a more rigid body, improved high-speed stability, and a lightweight chassis.
This time, the wheel choice are 19-inchers wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. We can clearly see the large red Brembo brake calipers up front and there’s a unique look out back with the wing, which isn’t as integrated as its predecessor but at the same time, it isn’t as flamboyant this time around.
The interior gets the properly expected Type R treatment with red everywhere, including the highly bolstered seats and even the floor mats and carpet. The other characteristics come from the highly praised Civic lineup but with automatic dual-zone climate control, 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and three USB ports.
The new 2023 Honda Civic Type R will eventually uncover its power figures and fuel economy just before it goes on sale this Fall with a starting price that we expect to be a little higher than the outgoing model’s $38,910 figure.
