This week the 2014 Paris Motor Show kicks off and things are look to commence with a bang as Lamborghini spawns the introduction of a new vehicle, a hybrid, one to take on the Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and LaFerrari head-on, one with 900 horsepower. Lamborghini introduces the Asterion Concept, which features a 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque 5.2-liter V10 engine and an electric motor serving as a power booster, starter and generator. Between those components is a 7-speed dual clutch transmission to power the rear wheels. Up front, you will find a lithium-ion battery back and two electric motors to power the front wheels.
Also, don’t forget that you can get discounted new car pricing with a free quote through qualified local dealer partners.
The electric motor bits are said to be good for about 295 horsepower, for a total output from the gas engine and electric motors of 897 horsepower (potentially 910-horsepower as name will be LPI 910-4). With this setup it is slated to hit 60 mph from a stop in 3 seconds flat all the way up to its top speed of 199 mph. It is claimed to do all of this and return up to 56 mpg. Well, that’s wild.
For the eco-minded folks, because this is technically a hybrid, the Asterion Concept will run up to 31 miles on pure electric power and cruise up to 78 mph in the EV mode.
The use of forged carbon-fiber cell technology gives the Asterion a light-weight advantage and cost savings.
No word on actually producing this vehicle as Lamborghini is probably getting their feelers out to see how well it is perceived. Though, we would suspect this vehicle will see production very soon considering how vehicles like the Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and LaFerrari have exhausted their first allocation to lucky buyers. Of course, just like any hypercar with new hybrid tech, get ready to open your check book wide to the tune of about $650,000-$850,000 or more for this one.
