“Click Click Boom! I’m comin’ down on the stereo, hear me on the radio Click Click Boom! I’m comin’ down with the new style and you know it’s buck wild Click Click Boom! I’m on the radio station TOUR around the nation leaving the scene in devastation…” -Saliva
Well they got the devastation part right. So what happened you might ask? Well faster than Tom Cruise can say “great balls of fire Maverick” the “Top Gun” fighter-jet inspired AMS Lancer Evolution “crashed and burned”, well maybe not the crash part, but the Evo started smoking like groupies at a Sublime concert! To recap, the AMS team participated this spring in the 2010 Texas Mile event in Goliad, TX. Attempting to conquer the mile AMS campaigned their drag car, a Mitsubishi Evolution.

The good news is that the car made it successfully down the mile reaching a maximum speed of 228 miles per hour to set a new standing mile record in a Mitsubishi Evo and breaking the record for a four-cylinder vehicle. The bad news is that the vehicle subsequently burst into flames. Holy terminal velocity Bat Man! I’ve heard of spontaneous combustion but this was probably as much of a surprise to AMS as it was to the crowd of spectators watch the event. Luckily no one was hurt and AMS stated that the car performed to their expectations. Well, if you call bursting into a ball of flames after crossing the finish line performing to expectations, then I guess the results were a success. Score! Where’s Ralliart when you need them?
