Automobile magazine reported this information along with speculation that a new 3-Series GT (Gran Turismo – similar to the bigger 5-Series GT) model to be introduced in March 2013. The GT 3-Series will be one of five body styles for the 3-Series line-up. This will be the most variants offered in the 3-Series trim including a wagon, sedan, coupe and convertible.
As the rumor mill has only initiated about the new 3-Series lineup, there is additional speculation that a 6th version of the 3 in the form of a 3-door “shooting brake” wagon which would enter BMW into a completely new segment altogether. No conformations have been made yet for this move although since BMW has plans to produce front-wheel drive vehicles, I would not be too surprised about this particular move.
New for 3-Series vehicles will be upgraded 4-cylindar engines to start off the European lineup with a 1.6-liter 136-hp on up to a 245-hp 2.0-liter turbodiesel.
