A new player has entered the supercar arena: Nilu27, a brand created by Koenigsegg and Bugatti designer Sasha Selipanov. Their debut vehicle, the NILU, boldly rejects modern trends like turbocharging and hybrid technology, instead opting for a pure, unadulterated driving experience with a naturally aspirated V-12 engine and a gated manual transmission. With gullwing doors adding to its allure, this hypercar is a stunning blend of classic and cutting-edge design.

Engineering Marvel: The Heart and Soul of the NILU

At the core of the NILU is a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque chassis, complemented by tubular aluminum-alloy subframes. This foundation supports the 6.5-liter, 80-degree V-12 engine, designed by Hartley Engines in New Zealand. According to Nilu27, this engine is unique in its configuration, with individual throttle bodies positioned externally and exhausts exiting from the top in a “hot V” setup. The result is a power unit that not only aims to exceed 1000 horsepower but also revs with the precision and responsiveness of an electric motor.

The 12-into-1 Inconel exhaust system, 3D-printed to achieve its complex form, ends in a distinctive tri-exit tip inspired by a space shuttle, adding an exotic touch to the hypercar’s auditory and visual presence.

Analog Driving Experience

True to its purist philosophy, the NILU’s driving experience is all about direct feedback. The seven-speed gated manual transmission, supplied by CIMA, features a pole-like shift knob with a locking mechanism to prevent accidental engagement of reverse gear, reminiscent of the Lamborghini Countach. The interior eschews modern conveniences, featuring no buttons on the steering wheel and no drive modes. The only digital display is a screen integrated into the rear-view mirror to enhance rearward visibility.

Fixed seats and manually adjustable components such as the pedal box, headrest, and door mirrors, controlled via billet-machined levers and switches, emphasize the car’s commitment to an analog experience.

Superior Handling and Performance

The NILU’s performance is further enhanced by a double-wishbone, pushrod suspension system, and a set of staggered centerlock wheels—20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear—wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes ensure superior stopping power, making the NILU as competent on the track as it is breathtaking.

Exclusive Production and Future Plans

Nilu27 plans to produce only 15 launch-edition NILU hypercars, which may be exclusive to racetrack use. Additionally, the company intends to manufacture 54 street-legal units. The NILU will make its public debut at Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week on August 15. Initial prototypes and customer cars will be assembled in Irvine, California, before production moves overseas.

A Timeless Automotive Masterpiece

Inna Selipanov, co-founder and COO of Nilu27, expressed excitement about the brand’s reception and emphasized the enduring appeal of their analog-focused design. “While the world is moving towards electrification, and for very good reason, we firmly believe the timelessness of these cars will not only keep them relevant but will continue to find a place in the collections of passionate car lovers.”

With its blend of classic engineering and modern materials, the NILU hypercar stands as a testament to the enduring allure of pure driving pleasure, ready to captivate enthusiasts at Monterey Car Week and beyond.
