In a stunning display of speed and determination, 27-year-old Gabby Thomas secured her first Olympic gold medal in the Women’s Track & Field 200m at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Competing at the iconic Stade de France, Thomas surged ahead from lane seven, clinching victory with a time of 21.83 seconds.

“Crossing the line, I was in disbelief,” Thomas shared. “I knew I could do it. I knew going into the race that I had this. It was a confidence and a feeling that I felt. There’s no feeling like having a gold medal. There’s nothing like it, and when I crossed the line, immense pride and immense happiness. I can’t even describe it.”

This gold medal adds to Thomas’s impressive Olympic record, which includes a silver in the 4×100-meter relay and a bronze in the 200m from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Her journey to Paris was marked by a victorious run at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June, where she not only won the 200m but also became the second-fastest 200m sprinter in U.S. Track and Field history with a time of 21.78 seconds.

Beyond the Olympics, Thomas’s career is decorated with numerous accolades. She won gold in the 200m at the 2023 U.S. Track and Field Championships, setting both a world-lead time and a meet record. As a Harvard University student-athlete, she broke the collegiate record in the 200m at the 2018 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships and claimed 22 conference titles across six events.
